Early life and career in the Senate

Biden, who was raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and New Castle county, Delaware, received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware in 1965 and a law degree from Syracuse University in New York in 1968. During this time he married (1966) Nelia Hunter, and the couple later had three children. After graduating from law school, Biden returned to Delaware to work as an attorney before quickly turning to politics, serving on the New Castle county council from 1970 to 1972. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1972 at the age of 29, becoming the fifth youngest senator in history. About a month later his wife and infant daughter were killed in a car accident, and his two sons were seriously injured. Dr. Annemarie Baltay from the USGS said the Calaveras Fault system is very seismically active.

“Numerous moderate earthquakes have happened in the area including the 6.2 magnitude Morgan Hill earthquake in 1984,” she said.

According to the USGS forecast, there is a 2% chance of one or more aftershocks that are larger than magnitude 5, which can be damaging, within the next week.

Plain, unscented chlorine bleach with no added cleaners can also disinfect water when 16 drops are added to one gallon.
