However, it is still important to know how to take a reading yourself. For example, you may need to submit manual meter readings when switching suppliers or moving home, or if for some reason we can\u2019t take your readings remotely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This page covers how to take meter readings from a wide variety of smart meters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re not sure what type of smart meter you have, please&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/customer-care\/get-in-touch\/\">get in touch<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"smets1-meters\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">SMETS1 meters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you had your smart meter installed before March 2018, it\u2019s likely to be a SMETS1.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"accordion wp-block aligncenter\">\n        <div class=\"accordion__inner\">\n        \n\n        \n                    <div class=\"accordion__items\">\n                                    <div class=\"accordion__item reveal\">\n                        <button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"accordion__item__header js-reveal-item\">\n                            <h4 class='accordion__item__heading'>SMETS1 Electricity meter<\/h4>                            <span class=\"accordion__item__button\">\n                                <span class=\"accordion__item__button__cross\"><\/span>\n                                <span>\n                        <\/button>\n                        <div class=\"accordion__item__content reveal__content\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion__item__content__inner\">\n                                <p>Your electricity reading will be a number followed by \u201cKWH\u201d. We don&#8217;t need the numbers after the decimal place.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re on a multi-rate tariff such as Economy 7, we will need a reading for each rate. The two readings will appear one after another, generally followed by R1 (rate 1) and R2 (rate 2). There\u2019s no rule as to which one is the peak and off-peak reading, but generally the reading that shows the lowest number will be the off-peak one. There may be a label on your meter indicating which is which.<\/p>\n<p>After R1 and R2, a third reading marked \u201cT\u201d might appear. This is the total of your peak and off-peak readings combined. We won\u2019t need this reading if you are on a multi-rate tariff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If your meter has A and B buttons:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the A button repeatedly until you get to \u201cTOTAL ACT IMPORT\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The number shown below this is your meter reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>If your meter has a green A and a white B button:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press and hold the green A button for at least 2 seconds.<\/li>\n<li>Press A repeatedly to cycle through the displays.<\/li>\n<li>The first row of numbers that appears is your meter reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>If your meter has three unmarked buttons:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the middle button.<\/li>\n<li>The number shown below \u201cIMP\u201d is your meter reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>If your meter has an orange button and a blue button:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the orange button.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll see a row of numbers followed by \u201cKWH\u201d, this is your reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>If your meter has two buttons marked Reconnect and Display Select:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the \u201cDisplay\u201d or \u201cDisplay Select\u201d button.<\/li>\n<li>Keep pressing until it scrolls through to a number followed by kWh. This is your reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>SMETS1 Gas meter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your gas reading will be a number followed by \u201cm3\u201d. You can ignore the numbers after the decimal place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If your meter has A and B buttons only:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the A button repeatedly until you get to \u201cMETER INDEX\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The number shown below this is your meter reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>If your meter has three square red buttons (they might be labelled A, B, and C):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the A (or left) button.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll see a row of numbers followed by m3. This is your reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>If your meter has a left arrow, a circle and a right arrow:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the middle \u201ccircle\u201d button.<\/li>\n<li>The screen will show \u201ccurrent meter reading\u201d at the top.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll see a row of numbers followed by m3. This is your reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>If your meter has orange and blue arrow buttons:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the orange button.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll see a row of numbers followed by m3. This is your reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n                                    <div class=\"accordion__item reveal\">\n                        <button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"accordion__item__header js-reveal-item\">\n                            <h4 class='accordion__item__heading'>SecureTM Smart Meters &#8211; electricity and gas<\/h4>                            <span class=\"accordion__item__button\">\n                                <span class=\"accordion__item__button__cross\"><\/span>\n                                <span>\n                        <\/button>\n                        <div class=\"accordion__item__content reveal__content\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion__item__content__inner\">\n                                <p class=\"text--medium\"><b>Taking a reading for a standard electricity tariff:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press 6 on the keypad.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll see the letters \u201cIMP R01\u201d appear on the screen.<\/li>\n<li>Wait a moment \u2013 then eight digits will appear, followed by \u201ckWh\u201d towards the bottom right of the screen.<\/li>\n<li>Take the first 7 digits \u2013 this is your reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Taking a reading for an Economy 7 electricity tariff:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press 6 on the keypad four times.<\/li>\n<li>Wait a moment \u2013 your day\/peak and night\/ off-peak readings will show up on the screen one after the other, starting with off-peak.<\/li>\n<li>For your off-peak reading, you&#8217;ll see \u201cIMP R01\u201d onscreen. A second later, you&#8217;ll see your meter reading: eight digits, with \u201ckWh\u201d towards the bottom right of the screen.<\/li>\n<li>For your peak reading you&#8217;ll see \u201cIMP R02\u201d. You&#8217;ll only need to take the first 7 digits when taking each of these readings (i.e. nothing after the decimal place).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Taking a reading from your smart gas meter:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press 9 on the keypad.<\/li>\n<li>The word \u201cVOLUME\u201d will show on the screen.<\/li>\n<li>Your gas reading, in cubic metres (m3) will appear.<\/li>\n<li>Take the first five digits as your reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"smets2-meters\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">SMETS2 meters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>These are second generation smart meters. If you had your meter installed after March 2018, it\u2019s likely to be a SMETS2.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below you\u2019ll find guidance on taking readings from some of the most commonly installed second generation smart meters. Check the logo on the front of your smart meter to find out what brand it is.<\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"accordion wp-block aligncenter\">\n        <div class=\"accordion__inner\">\n        \n\n        \n                    <div class=\"accordion__items\">\n                                    <div class=\"accordion__item reveal\">\n                        <button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"accordion__item__header js-reveal-item\">\n                            <h4 class='accordion__item__heading'>SMETS2 meters installed by Good Energy<\/h4>                            <span class=\"accordion__item__button\">\n                                <span class=\"accordion__item__button__cross\"><\/span>\n                                <span>\n                        <\/button>\n                        <div class=\"accordion__item__content reveal__content\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion__item__content__inner\">\n                                <p><strong>Taking a reading from your electricity meter:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press \u2018A\u2019 to wake up the screen.<\/li>\n<li>Keep pressing \u2018A\u2019 to cycle through the options until you get to \u2018Total Active Import\u2019. You should see your reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Taking a reading from your Aclara gas meter (not installed by Good Energy)<\/b><br \/>\nPress the middle button to wake up the screen. This should automatically display your gas reading.<\/p>\n<p><b>Honeywell Elster AS302P \u2013 electricity meter<\/b><br \/>\nPress \u2018select\u2019 to wake up the screen. This should automatically display your electricity reading.<\/p>\n<p><b>Flonidan G4SZV &#8211; gas meter<\/b><br \/>\nYour meter reading should automatically be displayed on the screen. class=\"is--inner-block\">Don\u2019t worry about sending anything that comes after a decimal place or in red<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"is--inner-block\">If in doubt, check your reading is 5 digits
